Our School Ethos: Every child can reach their full potential
At Southbroom Infants' School, we aim to provide your child with the best possible education and the securest of environments which enables all children to reach their full potential.
We are committed to creating a happy, positive environment where all children thrive academically and socially. Our children will become confident, independent learners who are determined to succeed and have a love for life and learning. We believe everyone in our school should demonstrate respect for themselves, their peers and the wider community, taking increasing responsibility for being the very best they can be. It really is a 'place to shine'.
We are aware that children learn in a variety of ways, and we seek to include this knowledge in our planning and teaching. We connect what we teach with what the children already know and understand and ensure that the children have time for thinking and review.
Our teaching philosophy is simple: we aim to combine the best of tried-and-tested methodology with new and innovative ways of teaching.
Our Southbroom CALM code
At Southbroom Infant School, we encourage all children to be ready, respectful and safe. This is underpinned by our Southbroom CALM code.
British Values
At Southbroom Infants’ School, we actively promote British values through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum, and teaching. As such, we promote tolerance of, and respect for, people of all faiths (or those with no faith), cultures, and lifestyles.
We prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain by supporting them through our words, actions, and influence, not just within school, but also within the wider community.
Throughout the year, we focus on different british values each term:

Promoting Our Values
We have developed, in consultation with our children, staff, governors and parents our own set of values that we explicitly teach across the school year.
We develop our values through:
- A clear program of school assemblies
- Direct teaching and class discussion
- Staff and pupil modelling of the values
- Displays linked to our values
- Termly newsletters home to parents

Our Values fit closely with our PSHE (Personal & Social Health Education) Curriculum.
