Whole School Poetry and Art Week - September 2024
We kicked off the new school year with a focus on poetry and art. All of our work focused on the poem 'The Sound Collector' by Roger McGough. All children across the school enjoyed taking part in a variety of poetry and art activities where they had the opportunity to learn new art skills and explore the vocabulary from the poem.
Reception
In reception the children explored printing and making different marks using shades of white and black. Take a look at the photos of our reception children creating their pieces of art work and some examples of their final pieces.
Year 1
In year 1, the children explored a variety of different paint media and used a variety of printmaking to create different patterns and marks. The children had to concentrate and print with care to create the clear bubble patterns and marks. Take a look at the photos of our year 1 children creating their pieces of art work and some examples of their final pieces.
Year 2
In year 2, the children explored creating different shades of blue by adding small amounts of white and black to blue. The children used paint colour strips to create different shades and match the colours carefully. The children then used their different shades of blue and bubble wrap to print a background, representing the rain from the poem. To add the final touches to their paintings, the children practiced drawing with accuracy by drawing a silhouette of 'The Stranger' from the poem.
